Retrieval: When pulled from traffic, Multi-sided systems, do not neatly fold up, in fact they often stay on the roadway, leave debris on the road and occasionally come apart and scatter the sections on the roadway.
This is illustrated below, as Multi-sided systems have had a history of deployment officers being struck by pursuit officers, as officers enter the roadway to recover the system. In the tabs labeled Singular Deployment and Cord Reel failure, we discuss the safety issues in greater detail, with training solutions.
Accordion systems are tough and designed to tay together and pull from traffic. Accordion systems have not been a death trap like the multisided counterparts, anhd we consider all Accordion systems to be safer. Despite this thier are some defferances between Auto-spike and other accordion systems.
Over-extend All Accordion systems will over extend when hit by a car. This can be a problem as the system is pulled from traffic and will not close. Pulling the system is important to clearing the roadway and not placing into motion a series of dealy actions like officers entering roadway to pull spikes, or pursuit officers trying to avoid Spikes and taking deadly actions.
The Spike -Devil Auto-Spike has two sets of stops on the enterarms to prevent over extending. This makes them much safer to pull and you are assured they will neatly fold up.
